Privacy notice

Last updated 2026-08-29

Reading this site is anonymous: there are no cookies, no accounts and no tracking across other sites. Buying something is not anonymous, because a payment cannot be — but the payment is handled by Polar Software Inc., and your card details never reach us. This page says exactly what we do receive and keep.

When you are just reading

The public pages set no cookies and there is nothing here to log into. Traffic is measured with Plausible Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites.

Plausible records, in aggregate, the page you viewed, where you arrived from, your device type and your country. Your IP address is used to derive the country and is not stored. We cannot tell who you are from any of it, and neither can they.

We use it for one thing: to know whether anybody found a product page. A listing that nobody visits and a listing that visitors reject are different results, and without this we could not tell them apart.

When you buy something

Checkout happens on Polar, not here. Polar Software Inc. is the merchant of record and collects what a sale requires: your name, email address, billing address and payment details. They are the data controller for that, under Polar’s privacy policy.

Your card details never reach New Window. We never see them, and there is nowhere in our systems they could be stored.

What we receive and keep

After a sale, Polar notifies us. Two things are stored, and they are different:

  • An order record — the order’s reference, what was bought, the amount, the processing fee, any tax, the currency, the country and state used for the tax calculation, and the dates of the sale and of any refund. This record contains no name and no email address.
  • The notification itself, as Polar sent it — retained unchanged so an order can be reconstructed if we ever record it wrongly. This one does contain your name, email address and billing address, because Polar’s notification does. It is the only copy of an order’s facts we ever receive, and it is kept for that reason and for tax records.

Both are held in a private database that is not reachable from the public site. We do not use either to contact you.

Email

Your order confirmation and your download link come from Polar. New Window does not run a mailing list, does not send marketing email, and will not add you to one. If we email you it is because you emailed us first, or because something went wrong with your order.

Who else your data reaches

We use these providers, and no others touch customer data:

  • Polar — payments, tax, invoicing and file delivery, as merchant of record.
  • Supabase — the database holding the order records described above.
  • Fly.io — hosting for this site and the service behind it.
  • Plausible — the traffic counts described above.

We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or pass it to anyone else except where the law requires it.

Where it is held, and for how long

Order data is stored in the United States. We keep it as long as tax and accounting law requires records of a sale to be kept, and delete it after that.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Depending on where you live, those may be legal rights rather than a courtesy — under the GDPR in the UK and EU, or the CCPA in California, among others. We apply them to everyone regardless.

One honest limit: where a record is part of the accounts for a sale, we may have to keep it until the retention period for tax records has run out, even if you ask us to delete it. We will tell you if that applies and delete everything else.

Anything held by Polar — which is most of what identifies you — is theirs to act on. Ask us and we will point you at the right place, or ask them directly.
